Put a Flat TV Screen Above the Fireplace

If you are looking for a good place to put a flat screen TV, you might want to try putting one over the fireplace. When you place a TV in this location, you can ensure that it will be in a highly visible location. At the same time, you will never need to worry about it taking up valuable wall space that you might want to use for other decorative items.

Flat TV's and Optimal Viewing Angles

Television Wall Brackets

No matter where you put chairs or couches in a room, it can be very easy to establish a direct line of sight for all potential viewers. This tends to occur more often when you have plenty of wall space, and then set the TV at eye level. On the other hand, when you place a Flat Screen TV over a fireplace, you will most often have to place it higher than usual. While you are arranging furniture in the rest of the room, you are sure to notice that it will be much easier to create an unobstructed view from each location.

Safety and Damage Prevention

Even though your pets, children, and other household members may not intend to be destructive, one single thrown object can destroy a flat screen TV. In a similar way, if you pets decide to use the TV frame as a scratching post, you will find that the TV does not last for very long. Typically, placing a Flat Screen TV above the fireplace will remedy both problems. Among other things, children will not be inclined to throw balls or other objects in the direction of the fireplace. At the same time, your pets will also not be inclined to climb onto the fireplace just so that they can use the TV as a scratching post.

Attractive and Enticing

Many people today enjoy having electronic photo frames that will display all kinds of images. When you have a Flat Screen TV, you can easily use a wireless device to transmit images from a computer. Without a question, if you have pictures of family members, or even stunning sunsets, they will look perfect when displayed on an enormous screen located above a fireplace. As may be expected, if you want to switch over to regular programming, or watch a video, it will be just as easy to accomplish.

When you purchase a Flat Screen TV, you are sure to enjoy being able to save room in your home, as well as all of the advanced technologies that are built into these units. Nevertheless, you will still need to find a suitable wall space that will accommodate your new TV with a minimal amount of difficulty. In many cases, the space above your fireplace may offer the safest location, as well as one that will enable each person in the room to see the TV clearly. As an added bonus, you are sure to appreciate making use of a location that you pets an children aren't likely to use in a way that would damage the TV.

Plasma Vs LCD Vs LED TVs - What Are the Differences?

In the last 10 years, TV technology has advanced to a great extent and has brought in state of art technologies in providing the finest flat-screen TVs. The most important aspect of the technology used has mainly focused around the size, resolution and compatibility and with this, in the last 5 to 10 years there has been a gradual change in the choice and viewing expectations of people.

Television Wall Brackets

The manufacturers have now started to put in unique features in their flat-screen TV models making the product having a distinctive advantage of full film effect viewing along with outstanding sound technology. There are various types of flat-screen TVs in the market today, and in order that you could decide between Plasma, LCD, and a LED TV, you ought to know a bit about the differences.

Television Wall Brackets

Overview of Plasma TV: The display in a Plasma TV is made up of millions of tiny plasma cells, and to put it simply, these cells emit light to create a complete image on the screen when a precise voltage is applied to them.

Plasma TVs available now offer larger screen size than LCDs. The screen sizes of Plasma TVs that are commonly available in the market include, 30 inch, 42 inch, 50 inch and 63 inch models, while the LCD TVs are limited to smaller screen sizes, which range from 10 inch to 40 inch models. Presently larger screen sizes of more than 60 inches are being made available in the market. One favourable point is that, the LCD technology is more flexible, which allows wide variety of screen sizes to be developed.

Advantages on Plasma TVs:
- Plasma TVs are available in larger display screen sizes.
- Plasma has better black levels, and also the contrast ratio.
- Plasma TVs can be viewed from any angle, as long as the viewing angle is between 160 to 180 degrees. - Plasma TVs have top refreshing rate which captures every detail in a fast action scene.
- Plasma screen can display billions of colors, producing smooth gradations of shades, enhancing the picture quality to a great extent, making the images life-like and realistic, responding sharply to fast moving images.

Disadvantages of Plasma TVs:
- Plasma TVS do not perform as well at higher altitudes.
- Plasma TVs are more susceptible to burn-in of static images.
- Plasma TVS are thicker than LCD TVs and hence much heavier.
- Plasma TVs produce glare in brightly lit rooms though some advancement in technology has been made to correct this.

Overview of LCD TVs: LCD TVs have Liquid Crystal Displays, a technology which is seen being used in computer monitors, cell phones, and at times are found in camera screens. LCD screen was first created for computer monitors, and now with the application of the technology in LCD TVs, they seem to be a bit better when you are playing games on your TV. However, the choice entirely depends on the user, since some like the vivid colors in Plasma TV, which comes from its deep black levels.

LCD panels work with liquid crystal solution being sandwiched between two polarized glasses. When an electrical voltage is applied to the liquid crystal, the crystals rotate, and this changes the polarization of the light passing through them. A LCD panel does not generate light by itself. It just filters or subtracts its back light source to create an image on the screen.

Advantages of LCD TVs:
- LCD TVs have better longevity than the Plasma. The average life-span has been predicted as more than 30 years.
- The display of LCD TVs uses lower power compared to Plasma TVs, but has more consumption than LED. - The screen sizes of LCD TVs are available in various sizes starting from computer monitor screens to over 60 inches.

Disadvantages of LCD TVs:
- The TV has a very poor contrast level and responds slower to fast moving images, creating a blur.
- The prices of LCD TVs are higher than the Plasma, and because of the demand and increased production the prices are gradually falling.

Overview of LED TVs: The term 'LED' stands for Light Emitting Diode. It is an electronic component which emits light when a certain voltage potential is applied to its terminals. Though the TV using this technology is call LED TV, but the LED light source is used as the TV's backlight, while the TV screen is actually LCD. Though some current TV models use CCFL (Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamps), LED form of backlighting remains a far more efficient TV backlight system.

The Advantages of LED TVs are as follows:
- With LEDs as the backlighting source, the TVs have a far better dynamic contrast level than LCD TVs, since it uses a direct backlighting technology.
- LED TVS are ultra thin as much as about an inch in thickness.
- The power consumption of LED TVs are less than the LCD TVs currently available.
- Out of the flat screen TVs available in the market today, LED TVs are considered to be most reliable.

The disadvantage is that LED TVS are higher priced than LCD TVs, but prices are expected to come down with increased production.

The above is an attempt to provide a basic conception about the differences between the three technologies available presently in flat-screen TVs which would help a buyer to decide which TV to buy.

Tips For Mounting a Flat Screen TV

A variety of flat screen TV wall mounts are available at home appliance stores or on the Internet. Wall mounts are important accessories as they can really enhance your TV-viewing experience. If you get an incompatible TV wall mount or you fix one incorrectly, you may not have the best viewing experience and you don't want to risk having your TV fall onto the floor and breaking. The following are some easy tips that would help you find or fix a wall mount in the best possible manner.

Television Wall Brackets

Check Out the Specs

Television Wall Brackets

Before rushing to the store or clicking on the "add to shopping cart" button, make sure that you understand the wall-mount specifications of your TV. They're usually mentioned in the user manual of your flat screen TV. The specifications of the TV wall mount that you purchase or have should also be read thoroughly. The wall mount needs to match the screen size of the television.

Normally, a particular mount is ideal for holding a TV within a specified range of screen size. For example, some wall mounts have a 26-50 screen size, which means these mounts are ideal for holding a TV screen within the size range of 26 inches to 50 inches. Another aspect is the weight capacity. Make sure that the weight capacity is more than the actual weight of the TV.

Flat TV screens come with pre-drilled holes on the back. Caps made of plastic or some other material sometimes cover these holes behind the TV. You have to remove these caps before mounting the TV. Use a screwdriver or a small knife to remove the caps. An important aspect here is the distance between the holes. These will be located at the corners of either a square or a rectangle. The TV wall mount should have mounting holes at the same distance.

You can get an idea about this distance from the VESA (Video Electronics Standard Association) standard. For example, VESA 75 means the holes are at the corners of a square with a side 75 mm long. VESA 100/200 means the holes are at the corners of a rectangle with the sides 100 mm and 200 mm long. Check the VESA rating of your flat screen TV and make sure that the VESA standard of the wall mount is compatible with that of the TV.

Finding The Best Spot on the Wall

Aesthetic and interior decoration plays a part in finding the right place for mounting the flat screen TV. However, one has to give more importance to the viewing angle. You can see the best picture when the TV screen is at a direct, head-on angle. A sideways angle often spoils the picture clarity.

The height of the mount is also an important factor. The TV should be placed at a spot slightly higher than eye level. You can find an ideal location after some trial and error. Also, when finding a spot on the wall to place the flat wall mounts, you should make sure that it's devoid of any kind of glare. That would be bad.

Take your time and you'll be sure to be proud of your work. You'll enjoy watching shows, movies and sports in no time. Good luck with your project!

What Are Corner TV Stands?

When it comes to TV stands, you can find them in sizes large and small and in every sort of material. But did you know that you can also get them in different shapes too? Corner TV stands are stands built in shapes that will both easily fit into a corner and that won't look awkward. Find out everything you ever wanted to know about a corner TV stand and why you might want to purchase one for your home.

Television Wall Brackets

Why Purchase Corner TV Stands?

Television Wall Brackets

Not everyone wants their TV to be front and center in their living room or family room. Maybe you want your fireplace or a unique piece of furniture to be the focal point of the room. But then where do you put your TV? At first, it may seem awkward to put your TV in the corner of the room, but with the right TV stand, a television can fit anywhere perfectly. Another benefit of corner stands is that it can save space in small rooms, make room for other pieces of furniture, or simply fit into a room that may have an odd shape or layout. With this type of TV stand, you can put your television in the corner and still have it look good.

Stands in Different Styles

If you want a corner TV stand, you don't have to sacrifice style. These TV stands can be found in any style you're looking for.

Contemporary

If your home currently has a contemporary décor, you'll want to look for TV stands that have a simple, sleek design without a lot of embellishments or extras. Contemporary stands can be made of many different materials, but the most contemporary ones are often made of glass, metal, or veneer and come in a variety of colors. For that modern feel, you'll probably want to choose black, silver, or the minimalist look of glass. Modern stands also often have open shelving, but many contain doors or drawers to hide any media accessories and equipment.

Traditional

If you prefer a more traditional look, you'll find plenty of stands to choose from for your TV. Traditional stands are usually made out of wood, whether it be oak, cherry, or maple, and because of the wood, come in warm brown tones that match many different styles of furniture and colors. Some will be very simple, and others may have embellishments, such as carving in the wood or stylized hardware on drawers and doors.

Antique

Another popular look for not only TV stands, but all types of furniture, is the antique look. This is a look that you can either buy in a store or online as a reproduction, or something you could find in an antique store and customize yourself to be used as a TV stand. If you can't afford a true antique, you could also buy a TV stand and apply an antique paint process to give it that old world look.

How to Get an Affordable Corner TV Stand

The cost of TV stands can range from the very affordable to the extremely expensive. If you want a beautiful TV stand, but you don't want to pay for a huge price tag, there are ways to keep costs down. Stands made of MDF or wood veneer retain the look of wood, while remaining affordable. Laminates can provide a contemporary look without busting your budget. Regardless of the style you want for your TV and your room, you can find affordable alternatives.

Corner Entertainment Centers

What if you want to keep your television in the corner but you want an entertainment center instead of a stand? Corner entertainment centers do exist! Some may be smaller than a normal entertainment center to be able to fit in an awkward space, however, there are entertainment centers that come in several pieces so you can extend out your storage space along both walls of the corner. Whether you want a stand or an entertainment center, you'll be able to find what you need.

Where to Buy Your Stand

One place to find affordable TV stands is online. You can shop for as long as you want and never have to leave your home. When you finally find the one that is perfect for you, all you have to do is order it, and then wait for it to be delivered to your door. If you truly have an awkward space that you're trying to fit your TV into, you could also have your stand custom-made. A custom-made piece allows you to choose the exact materials you want, the exact style you want, and the exact size you want.

No matter where you decide to buy your TV stand, you can find one that will fit perfectly into that corner. Start your search for a TV stand today.

Points to Remember While Purchasing an LCD TV

LCD TVs are much larger in size and it has become cheaper too! More and more people resort to upgrading their TV to a large TV. When you choose an LCD Television for your home or workplace certain points should be kept in mind so that you can purchase the right one.

Television Wall Brackets

Brand name is the first and foremost thing you must consider while buying an LCD Television. A reputed brand that is time tested is a wise choice. You may be tempted to buy bigger TV's which comes cheaper. TV's from reputed brands offer more features and better picture quality. Even if they are smaller in size they give value for money.

Television Wall Brackets

People have a tendency to buy all appliances carrying the same brand name, which is not at all a wise thing to do. The same brand may not specialise in all types of appliances. In this scenario do not hesitate to explore the possibilities of other reputed brands. Your television should have enough number of connections in order to avoid plugging and unplugging. The LCD Television that you buy should have features you need at present. DVD, Satellite and game console connections are some of them. Unplugging some to use certain others is inconvenient and time consuming.

At the same time, you should not fail to make sure your LCD TV has features for future use. It is possible you may need features like HD compatibility, digital TV compatibility, Free Sat etc. and other additional inputs for future use. You must make sure you are dealing with experienced dealers in LCD Televisions. Ensure the dealers are very well informed about the products they sell. If they are not able to answer your enquiries in a satisfactory way it may not be wise to make the purchase from them.

Size of the LCD Television is a matter to be concerned. The size should suit your room. An LCD TV which is oversized for your room and one which is too small are not a proper choice. It may be wiser to stick to the existing size of your TV set. Where are you planning to put your LCD in your room? Are you planning to put it in a corner or are you planning to wall mount it? Consider the location for your LCD TV before you make the purchase?

Do not spend more than 5 -10% of the cost of your LCD TV on accessories. Choose accessories that would enhance the look and provide a better performance. Ease of usage is another factor to be concerned. Cables, speakers and brackets are accessories that provide you ease when you use the unit. Speakers will improve the sound quality and brackets enable you to select the right height for your appliance.

LCD TV's with built-in features like a Hard Disk Drive, DVD player or memory card reader even though costs higher, saves space in your room. Your room will look bigger and less cluttered. Improving or making the most out of your present home system too is not a bad idea. TV's should have good sound system that fills the whole room. Movies feel realistic and enjoyable with a good sound system that takes you to the movie scene. LCD TV's bring life to movies and are surely a good investment.

How to Easily Install a TV Wall Mount

Installing LCD TV wall mounts may appear as simple as mounting a photo frame or a piece of art on your wall but it's not really that easy. However with a little caution and planning, you can do it yourself. Follow these simple guidelines for successful installation of an LCD TV wall mount.

Television Wall Brackets

Select The Wall - The first step is to select the wall on which the TV is to be mounted. You can choose the wall in your living room where it will be seen the most or it can be a wall in your bedroom for that lazy, leisurely TV watching. Having decided on the wall, handle the tricky issue of selecting which section of the wall. The typical construction of walls is either wooden beams known as studs or metal frames, which provide strength and support. While installing LCD TV wall mounts, it is advised not to rely on drywall alone and instead install on studs for greater support. You can use a stud finder to locate a stud in your wall where your mount can be hung. Always ensure that the mounting hardware penetrates deep inside the stud. If your wall is made of bricks or concrete, your job is easier. Solid walls of concrete or blocks are strong enough to hold the weight of TV and you can confidently install your mount without worrying about finding a stud. For walls with metal frames instead of studs, use toggle bolts that are easily available in most hardware stores.

Television Wall Brackets

Decide The Height - The next step in installing your wall mount is to decide the height at which you want your TV to be mounted. You can choose the height that makes the best viewing angle by eying it up. As a general rule, TV viewing is best with an angle of 180 degrees between your eyes and the TV. This means if you draw an imaginary line from the center of the TV screen, it should be horizontal to eye level. For the LCD TV wall mounts that give freedom of maneuverability to TV, you can even decide on a higher level. Tilting of the TV screen in this case compensates for the difference between the TV and your eyes.

Drill The Hole - The final step before drilling the wall is to identify the drilling spots on wall by making pencil markings. Measure the height from the floor and mark the wall. Repeat this for subsequent marks, always keeping the distance from the floor, the same. Ensure that your measuring tape is vertical and not slanted. It's wise to measure twice than to drill twice. So check and recheck until you are sure.

Last but not the least, carefully read the instructions provided with the TV wall mount and follow them while using above-mentioned tips as a general guideline. Pop some popcorn and enjoy the show!
